No, it isn’t a euphemism for anything, I really am talking about moldy cheese. Last weekend I bought a small block of cheese from the supermarket. I didn’t have need of it until Thursday but when I took it from the fridge it was entirely green with mold. It had been refridgerated, was well within the Use By date, and the packaging was still sealed.

By chance I still had the receipt so I took it back to the supermarket today to exchange it. I explained the situation to the girl at the service desk, she took the cheese and said “ooh there’s something wrong with that”. Um, yes … which is why I’m returning it.

I had to buy a few other things so she said I’d be fine to take a new block of cheese to the checkout with the receipt and let the cashier know that I’d given the moldy block to her. I did my shopping and when I got to the checkout I explained about the cheese. The cashier said “Oh my Goodness! Yes, I saw that cheese, that was DISGUSTING!”

I feel kind of special that my moldy cheese was the object of check-out chick gossip
